1. Who we are

True Maple Leaf ("we", "us", "our") is a Canadian trivia website operated as a personal project. We are based in Ontario, Canada. This Privacy Policy applies to the website at truemapleleaf.com and any related services.

2. What personal information we collect

We collect only the minimum information needed to operate the service:

• Game name (username) — chosen by you, maximum 10 characters, displayed publicly on the leaderboard. It is a handle, never your real name.
• City — selected by you from a list, used to rank you on your city's leaderboard.
• Email address (optional) — collected only if you choose to provide it, or sign in with Google, to save your streak across devices or receive reminders. You can play and appear on the leaderboard without giving an email.
• Game scores and streaks — your challenge results and streak count.
• Play timestamps — used to calculate streaks accurately.

We do not collect your real name, phone number, mailing address, date of birth, payment information, or any government identification. We do not collect location data beyond the city you voluntarily select from a list.

3. How we use your information

Your information is used only for the following purposes:

• Authenticating your account and maintaining your login session
• Displaying your username and score on the leaderboard
• Calculating and maintaining your daily streak
• Filtering leaderboard results by city
• Sending streak reminders, if you have opted in to notifications
• Improving the website through anonymised, aggregated usage analytics

We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any commercial purpose beyond operating the trivia service.

4. How we store your information

Your data is stored using Supabase, a cloud database service with servers located in Canada or the United States. Supabase implements industry-standard security including encryption at rest and in transit (TLS/SSL).

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If your account is inactive for more than 24 months, we may delete it. You may request deletion at any time (see Section 7).

5. Who we share your information with

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party.

We share limited data only with the following service providers, solely to operate the website:

• Supabase — database and authentication provider
• GitHub Pages — website hosting provider
• Cloudflare Web Analytics — cookieless, anonymous visit counts only (no personal data)
• Google — only if you choose to sign in with Google (Google handles authentication; we receive only your email address)
• Resend — email delivery provider, used only to send streak-reminder emails to users who have opted in

All service providers are bound by their own privacy policies and applicable law. We do not share data with advertisers, data brokers, or analytics companies beyond what is described in Section 9.

We may disclose your information if required by Canadian law or a valid court order.

6. Children and minors

True Maple Leaf is intended for users aged 16 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe someone under 16 has created a profile, please contact us at truemapleleaf.can@gmail.com and we will delete it promptly.

For users aged 16–17: we display no advertising to any user, we do not sell any user data, and we do not profile users for commercial purposes. Only the chosen game name is shown publicly — never a real name.

These practices align with the guidelines of the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada regarding minors and online services.

7. Your rights under PIPEDA

Under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), you have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate information
• Delete your account and all associated personal data
• Withdraw consent for notifications at any time
• File a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca

To exercise any of these rights, email us at truemapleleaf.can@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days. Account deletion requests will be fulfilled within 14 days.

8. Notifications and Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL)

We comply fully with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). This means:

• We will only send you streak reminders or any other notifications if you have explicitly opted in during signup
• The opt-in checkbox is never pre-ticked — consent must be an active, affirmative choice
• Every notification we send includes a clear, one-click unsubscribe link
• Unsubscribe requests are processed within 10 business days and the unsubscribe mechanism remains active for 60 days after any message
• We will never send commercial electronic messages without prior express consent

To unsubscribe from all notifications at any time, use the unsubscribe link in any message or email us at truemapleleaf.can@gmail.com.

9. Cookies and analytics

To keep you signed in and remember your progress, we store essential login and game data in your browser (using local storage and your sign-in session). This is required for the service to function and is never used for advertising or cross-site tracking.

For aggregate visit counts we use Cloudflare Web Analytics, a privacy-first analytics tool that is cookieless and does not collect or store any personal data, IP-address fingerprints, or information that could identify you individually. It simply counts anonymous page views and general trends so we can understand how many people use the site. We do not use Google Analytics or any tool that profiles or tracks individuals across other websites.

Because our analytics set no cookies and collect no personal data, no separate analytics-consent banner is required under PIPEDA. This policy itself serves as our disclosure.
