All trivia content is original and provided for entertainment purposes only and may contain errors. This is a free game with no prizes, payouts, or gambling.
Plain English summary: We collect only your email, username, and city. We do not sell your data. We do not show you ads. You can delete your account at any time. This policy complies with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
1. Who we are
True Maple Leaf ("we", "us", "our") is a Canadian trivia website operated as a personal project. We are based in Ontario, Canada. This Privacy Policy applies to the website at truemapleleaf.com and any related services.

2. What personal information we collect
We collect only the minimum information needed to operate the service:
- Email address — used for login via magic link. Required to create an account.
- Username — chosen by you, maximum 10 characters, displayed publicly on the leaderboard.
- City — selected by you at signup, used to filter leaderboards by city.
- Game scores and streaks — your daily challenge results and streak count, tied to your account.
- Login timestamps — to calculate streaks accurately.
We do not collect your real name, phone number, mailing address, date of birth, payment information, or any government identification. We do not collect location data beyond the city you voluntarily select from a list.
3. How we use your information
Your information is used only for the following purposes:
- Authenticating your account and maintaining your login session
- Displaying your username and score on the leaderboard
- Calculating and maintaining your daily streak
- Filtering leaderboard results by city
- Sending streak reminders, if you have opted in to notifications
- Improving the website through anonymised, aggregated usage analytics
We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any commercial purpose beyond operating the trivia service.
4. How we store your information
Your data is stored using Supabase, a cloud database service with servers located in Canada or the United States. Supabase implements industry-standard security including encryption at rest and in transit (TLS/SSL).
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If your account is inactive for more than 24 months, we may delete it. You may request deletion at any time (see Section 7).
6. Children and minors
True Maple Leaf is intended for users aged 14 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us at truemapleleaf.can@gmail.com and we will delete the account promptly.
Users aged 14–17 are welcome. We do not display advertising to any user, we do not sell any user data, and we do not profile users for commercial purposes. Usernames are displayed using only the chosen handle — no real names are ever shown publicly.
These practices align with the guidelines of the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada regarding minors and online services.
7. Your rights under PIPEDA
Under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate information
- Delete your account and all associated personal data
- Withdraw consent for notifications at any time
- File a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca

8. Notifications and Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL)
We comply fully with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). This means:
- We will only send you streak reminders or any other notifications if you have explicitly opted in during signup
- The opt-in checkbox is never pre-ticked — consent must be an active, affirmative choice
- Every notification we send includes a clear, one-click unsubscribe link
- Unsubscribe requests are processed within 10 business days and the unsubscribe mechanism remains active for 60 days after any message
- We will never send commercial electronic messages without prior express consent

9. Cookies and analytics
We use session cookies to keep you logged in. These are essential to the service and cannot be disabled without breaking login functionality.
If we use analytics tools (such as aggregated page view counts), we use only privacy-respecting, anonymised analytics that do not identify individual users. We do not use Google Analytics in a way that tracks individual users across sites.
A cookie consent notice is shown on your first visit to the website, in accordance with PIPEDA best practices.
